UNBROKEN provides scholarships that connect children facing grief, trauma, and life's toughest challenges with meaningful equine experiences.
After more than two decades in law enforcement, I've seen children on some of the hardest days of their lives. I've responded to homes where families were dealing with loss, trauma, addiction, and circumstances no child should have to understand. As police officers, we do what we can in that moment. We make sure a child is safe, help stabilize the situation, and eventually leave for the next call. But I've often wondered what happens to those children after we leave.
Years later, I found myself sharing a riding arena with an 11-year-old girl whose family I had encountered during one of those difficult calls. This time there were no police cars, no flashing lights, and no crisis. There was simply a child and a horse.
I watched her ride, smile, learn, and build confidence. Seeing what being around horses gave her made me think about all the other children I've encountered throughout my career—and how many of them might benefit from having the same opportunity.
That night, the idea for UNBROKEN was born. UNBROKEN exists to help connect children facing grief, trauma, and life's toughest challenges with meaningful equine experiences. We provide scholarships that help remove the financial barrier between a child and an opportunity to spend time learning, growing, and building confidence alongside horses.
